When I started the Moda Blockheads 4 Sew A Long, 28 weeks ago (they posted a core block design every Wednesday morning to the FB group and released another 10 optional blocks occasionally throughout the 6+ months), I never thought that I would be finishing it as I start a new job!
Here is Molly, resting on the newly sewn together quilt top. I still need to add the borders, but at this time, the quilt is measuring 69.5" tall by 79.5" wide (it's six blocks tall and 7 blocks wide (9" finished), with 2" finished sashing in both directions.
For some of the blocks, I actually combined 4 of the smaller, 4.5" finished blocks into a single block, and then treated that as a single block for adding in the sashing.
These are some of my favorite blocks from the project:
And for posterity's sake, I did manage to get a photo of one of the final seams for the top (pre-borders), proving this was all completed on my new Juki!
Without further ado, this is the final EQ8 top (please note: in the version with the borders, the final blocks are not in this specific layout, but the colorings and designs of the final blocks are all there):
And this is the current status (it needs a really good pressing before adding in the two borders):
After laying it out, to measure for borders, I promptly fell asleep on the sofa. When I woke up from my brief and impromptu nap, I found that Molly girl had pushed her dog bed up as close as she could get to both the quilt and to me sleeping on the coach, so that she could "cuddle" with us. Some days, the sweetness of this puppy just kills me!
When I finish the top, I'll share my overall thoughts about the project and some of the things I learned and skills I gained along the way.
Thanks for Stopping by!
