Colorado Kites & Tea Parties

My younger sister and her family live in Denver, Colorado. I've spent a lot of time over the past 12 years traveling out to visit them (and a few times to babysit). I love Colorado, and we always get out to explore the surrounding area.

On one of our early trips, we went to Boulder, for a quick day trip. It was a gorgeous drive and we parked downtown, to explore the quaint Pearl Street pedestrian mall and the downtown area. The first trip there, there was just one nephew, still a toddler, and we found Into the Wind, a magical kite and toy shop on the Pearl Street mall. Looking at all the bright colors in that shop, which is full of wind catchers and kites and all sorts of bright floating things, readily became a favorite for us all.

On one of the trips there, I saw in the touristy materials that Celestial Seasons' was nearby, and had a tea room and factory tour. Sounded exactly like something I would love, but the kids were still much too small, and my sister wasn't very enthusiastic at first.

Our first trip to the tea factory was a few years later, when the boys were old enough to appreciate it. And while the factory tour is lovely, it's the tea room that dazzles the kids. The large room is decorated with art (including the original cover art for many of celestial seasons' tea boxes), with tables and chairs and fun little nooks.

And in the front is a long counter, with rows of tea vessels. Hot and cold tea available to taste, and snacks to purchase, it's a way to sample their wares, and kill time before the tours begin. For us, it became the main show, especially because tea parties are a favorite way to play in the summer in the backyard!

In 2017, I "aunted" for a week with my youngest niece, while her parents were out of town and the rest of the kids were at camp. I suggested a trip to Boulder, and she merrily packed her tea set, and off we went!

We spent hours in that tea room, with her filling up and drinking mini teapots, and chatting with a lot of the elderly guests in who were enjoying the week-day early tours of the factory. She was in her full element, giggly and friendly and adorable beyond measure.

These trips to boulder have been one of my most cherished memories of time with my family, and for me the sweet smells of herbal teas and the bright colors of the kites will immediately take me back to those warm summer days spent holding little hands and relaxing!

Thanks for stopping by!
